Rain water harvesting (RWH) systems in all the previous projects and other ecofriendly features like vermiculture, tree plantation and CFL bulbs have been offered by Gera Developments.
The rain water harvesting project was launched for free for past customers. "We want as many people to benefit,'' CMD Kumar Gera said.
"We have thought about the completed projects and our past customers who are part of the first projects we built in 1971. Their water security is important too,'' he said.
Of the 40 projects, the group has completed in the last 40 years, five societies have accepted the RWH offer. This will involve undertaking a survey of the site, recommending the spot and drilling up to 200 feet, so that the rain water can recharge the water table.
Vaibhav Jawalekar, chairman of Shakti Cooperative Housing Society, Sangamwadi, where the rain water harvesting project has been completed, said, "Our society used to get municipal water for just two hours a day. All the residents had to store water at home. Through this new system, the water situation has improved. We had to install a pump to fill the overhead tanks.''
