The chowk is located at the junction of the Aundh-Ravet road and Chinchwadgaon-Hinjewadi road in Thergaon village

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will construct a flyover at the Dange chowk in Thergaon on the Aundh-Ravet road to reduce congestion at this busy junction.

Speaking to TOI on Wednesday, municipal commissioner Ashish Sharma, "The four-lane flyover will enable people coming from Kalewadi side to cross the Dange chowk and go towards Tathawade and Ravet without stopping at the junction."

He said, "The expenses of the flyover will be met from the Rs 200-crore loan taken from the World Bank (WB) for constructing the Nashik Phata and the Empire Estate flyovers. We have prepared a design for the flyover and will be submitting it to the WB, this week, for approval. The estimated cost of the flyover is Rs 20 to Rs 25 crore. We will invite bids for the project, as soon as we get approval from the WB. The actual construction work is expected to start three to four months after completion of the tender process."

Dange chowk is located at the junction of the Aundh-Ravet road and Chinchwadgaon-Hinjewadi road in Thergaon village. The work on the widening and creation of the bus rapid transport system route on the Aundh-Ravet road is already in progress, so there is always traffic congestion at the Dange chowk.

Also, there are fruit stalls, bus stops and rickshaw stands on the road going towards Hinjewadi, which leads to traffic congestion. There is a `majoor adda' (daily wage labourers' stop) on the road going towards Tathawade and Ravet villages, which attracts a large crowd besides hawkers. A weekly bazaar is also held at the spot on Sunday, adding to the congestion.

Speaking to TOI, Anand Shinde, a commuter from Chinchwad said, "Motorists cross the chowk from all directions leading to chaos. A traffic policeman or warden should be deployed here."

Another motorist, Deepak Jadhav, from Kalewadi, said, "The signals installed at the chowk, almost a year ago, should be made operational as soon as possible for effective control of the traffic." Anagha Vartak, a commuter from Thergaon, said, "The PCMC should take action against handcarts and hawkers at the chowk, since they add to the traffic congestion here."
