Online System To Report Illegal Buildings Launched

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has introduced an online system that allows field officers to report unauthorised constructions in their jurisdiction. Citizens, too, can view details of the reported illegal structures and track the action taken by the civic authorities.

Even as trials of the system are on, plans are afoot to also allow members of the public to report unauthorised constructions online.

Speaking to TOI, Neelkant Poman, chief of the computer department, said the online system, dubbed `PCMC service levels monitoring  unauthorised construction', will have a base map of the township. The unauthorised construction will be indicated on the map along with the name of the ward. The facility is available on PCMC's website, pcmcindia.gov.in.

The PCMC said the objective behind introducing the feature is to enable the public to report their problems and also bring transparency in the corporation's functioning. The unauthorised construction reporting feature is the first in a series, the corporation has stated.

Civic officials said the feature is an extension of an earlier facility that allows field staff to report potholes. The service, introduced a few months ago, underwent changes based on feedback from civic employees. A similar system has been used to track garbage vehicles, which ensures that refuse from every bin is cleared. The civic body has introduced various online features on its website. The corporation, incidentally, has launched the process for establishing urban police stations, aimed at tackling unauthorised constructions.
