The traffic department was initially planning to ban plying of heavy vehicles in the area throughout the day, but it later revised its plan after vehicle owners and operators opposed the same.

Deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Manoj Patil, told TOI on Thursday that the ban was being implemented to give some relief to owners and operators of heavy vehicles. Traffic police have now invited suggestions and objections from citizens on the proposal.

The ban will be in effect from 9 am to noon and from 5pm to 10 pm. Light vehicles, including threewheeler and four-wheeler, have also been banned in the area from 5 pm to 9 pm everyday.

However, the ban excludes emergency service vehicles like fire brigade, police vehicles and ambulances.

Suggestions and objections may be sent by March 11 in writing to DCP, traffic control branch, Sadhu Vaswani road, Pune-1.
