Dial 100: Soon, City Cops Will Reach Trouble Spots Quicker

The city police will soon implement `Distress Control Response Management System (DCRMS) with 100 dial' in the city, making it possible to reduce the time taken to arrive at a spot after they receive a call from citizens.

"A new control room is being built at the city police commissionerate for implementing DCRMS. The control room will have 10 call-takers and a voice logger will record all the calls. Once the system is carried out, all police jeeps and cars in the city would be fitted with GPS facility. A geo graphical information system screen at the control room will indicate the exact location of police vehicles," said Sanjeev Singhal, additional commissioner of police (administration).

Singhal said that presently, when a person calls the control room to inform the police about any contingency, the control room staff calls the police station in the area concerned. A police jeep is then dispatched from the station, he said.

"Once a GIS system is set up at the control room, we can collaborate with telecom operators and the police will be able to see the exact location of the callers. The location of all police jeeps in the city would also be displayed on the screen. The control room staff then would get in touch with the police jeep that is nearest to the trouble spot. Thus, the police will reduce its response time and improve crime detection, said Singhal.

Singhal said that after using DCRMS facilities over 15 days or so initially, the police would take note of areas from where maximum calls originate, at what time in a certain area the calls increase and so on. Using these reports, the police would deploy personnel and jeeps and increase vigil in those areas, he said.
