PMC Removes Construction Waste Along Mutha Riverbank
By akansha, Section Pune Municipal Corporation ![]() The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally sprung into action and deployed a JCB which has started removing the construction waste dumped illegally by builders in the Mutha riverbed between Patil Estate and Sangamwadi. However, BJP leader Vikas Mathkari has demanded quick action against those who dumped the debris and the authorities who failed to stop it. He has also threatened to go on a hunger strike in front of Mayor's office from Tuesday. The issue of construction waste piling up along the Mutha river had come up for discussion during the general body meeting this week. The BJP had alleged that the civic administration was turning a blind eye to this illegal dumping along the Mula-Mutha river basin, along Sangamwadi bridge. On Saturday, Mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale along with Mathkari, reporters and civic officials paid a visit to the site to take stock of things.
Matkari said, "The PMC has almost completed the road work between Patil Estate and Sadalbaba. Though this road is not yet open for commuters, the builders had already started dumping the construction waste on a huge scale in the green belt. This has caused huge damage to the green zone and during the rains it might cause floods." Matkari alleged that this happened despite several warnings by the officials of Irrigation Department and civic ward officers, who had brought this to the notice of the civic administration in some way or the other. Hence, the culprits should be punished and criminal offences should be registered against them," Mathkari said.
Sangamwadi ward office also claimed that they had brought the matter to the notice of civic administration.
