The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will soon demarcate parking and no-parking zones along the Kalewadi phata Pimpri road, said Subhash Dumbre, additional commissioner, on Tuesday, after the general body (GB) gave approval to the proposal.
The road has become narrow due to encroachments and haphazard parking. The road was widened to 18 metres recently, but it did not help reduce congestion. The PCMC hopes that demarcation of parking zone will help solve this problem.
Congress corporator and former opposition leader, PCMC Macchindra Tapkir said, "The PCMC should develop an alternative road to reach Pimpri through the new bridge between Kalewadi and Pimprigaon which has not yet been opened to traffic."
Another Congress corporator Jyoti Bharati said, "All corporators of Kalewadi area will work together to see if further widening of the main road in Kalewadi is possible, which will prevent mishaps. Efforts will also be made to have a hawker zone in the nearby areas so that the hawkers can be shifted to reduce congestion on the main road."
