MCCIA Plans Common Effluent Treatment Plant In MIDC EstatesBy akansha, Section Development
The Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) has proposes to come up with a common effluent treatment plant (CETP) in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Bhosari for the treatment of industrial waste.
The total investment for this CETP is estimated to be around Rs 15 crore. Anant Sardeshmukh, additional director general of MCCIA, told TOI that it is not feasible for small scale industries to have effluent treatment plant. "These units are scattered and there has to be a central drainage system to have an ETP. Only big companies have their own ETPs. Hence, the CETP will be useful for smaller units in the industrial area," he said. Sardeshmukh said the MCCIA is in talks with Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for setting up the CETP. "A survey was carried out by the MIDC about the nature of effluent and the total quantity of effluents released. The feasibility and cost factor of the CETP is looked being into. A special purpose vehicle (SPV) is being considered for the project which will be the management and operational body," he added. At present, the data is being collected. The industries too have to agree to the plan. He stated that the the SPV model has been successful in the industrial area in Thane. The same will be tried here. The initial investment will come from the government, the PCMC, the MIDC and the industrial units, he added. Suresh Mhtre, president of the Pimpri-Chinchwad small industry association said that they have received a letter asking detailed information from the industries on the effluents, parametres and quantity of effluents generated in a day, among other things, for the setting up of CETP. "The details will help to decide the capacity of the plant," he further said. Source: Times Of India MCCIA plans common effluent treatment plant in MIDC estates
