JN Petit beat Loyola by 1-0 to win under-16 inter-school football tournament organised by the Zilla Parishad held at the SSPMS grounds on Friday.

JN Petit had a confident start and passed the ball around well. They took a couple of attempts on goal and won a free kick in a good position but could not manage to score. Loyola then had a good spell of possession and were launching attacks on opposition goal. However, they could not get past the strong Petit defence which was orchestrated well by their captain Riyan Yadgiri. Ten minutes ahead of halftime, Yadgiri had an excellent opportunity to give his team the lead through a free kick. But he failed to convert the opportunity as the keeper saved his shot well. In the very next move, at the other end, Loyola nearly took the lead when their player's shot went an inch over the target. Both defences remained strong and the half ended goalless.

Loyola started the second half well winning a corner in the opening few minutes. The corner itself nearly resulted in a goal as the ball curled inches wide of the post. Loyola had the upper hand as they had yet another chance to take the lead in the very next move. Parth Kalyani turned his defender well before slashing the ball just wide off the goal. Petit then responded well to the passionate cries of coach Nandu Angirwal and started playing a much calmer game. They strung a few good passes together and played some good flowing football. Then in the 45 th minute Petit drew first blood through Riyan Yadgiri. Yadgiri expertly guided the ball into the net after receiving a good cross from the corner position. With 5 minutes to go, Loyola put the opposition goal under constant threat, but could not find the equalizing goal. Soon after, the referee blew his final whistle and the match ended 1-0.
