Class XI admissions: Cut-off % up, 1120 new seats for ScienceBy sachiv, Section Education
Take admission in allotted college, don't wait, advise education officials
The cut-off percentage for Class XI admissions this year has increased by around 2 per cent. This is because of the increase in number of students passing the Class X examination with good percentages. According to the percentile formula, the increase in cut-off percentages is 4 per cent.

"As there were around 7,000 more applications for the science stream compared to the intake capacity, the state government has increased 1,120 seats in 14 junior colleges. As there are 4,779 students who have applied for science and commerce streams, the students remaining only for science stream will be less," education department deputy director G K Mhamane said at a Press conference today. The merit-list for class XI admissions was declared today. The students will be given admissions according to the list from Tuesday till July 24. "All the students will get admission. If the need arises, we will increase some more seats for the science stream. There will be no need to increase the seats for commerce stream. Many seats of arts stream will remain vacant as there are less number of applicants compared to the available seats," said Mhamane.
He added that students should take the admissions to the allotted colleges. "One can withdraw the admission after getting elsewhere. But don't wait if one has not been able to get admission to the desired college," he said. "For bifocal course, 725 seats have been added increasing the present intake of 2975. All these seats will be unaided," said R S Ghume, district professional education and training officer. The students who have not applied in the centralised admission process still have a chance to get admission. "Such students should apply in the colleges after July 28 till July 31, where the seats will remain vacant," said Mhamane. Source: The Indina Express, 22/07/2008
