Builder Dilip Tapadia Held For Forging CertificateBy Riti, Section Real Estate
The Deccan Gymkhana police on Wednesday arrested one Dilip Tapadia, a builder, and booked constable N.R. Thombare for allegedly forging signature of a police station in charge for issuing a fake certificate pertaining to a land TDR case in which Tapadia is an accused.
The land belongs to Thorla Shaikh Salla dargah. A complaint in the case was registered with Deccan Gymkhana police on January 25. According to senior inspector Jayawant Deshmukh, Tapadia was the main accused in the case. He had applied for an anticipatory bail in the high court and the hearing was scheduled on Thursday. Tapadia had mentioned in his bail application that the documents pertaining to the TDR case had gone missing. The court had demanded a certificate endorsed by the police about the missing documents, Deshmukh said. "Tapadia had requested me for a certificate in this regard. As he was an accused in the case, I declined to help him in this regard," Deshmukh told TOI.
Later, Deshmukh received a letter from anti-extortion cell chief, inspector Kishor Jadhav, on June 23. Jadhav wanted to know about a certificate issued to Tapadia, which carried Deshmukh's name. The letter also mentioned that Tapadia had submitted the certificate in the TDR case with Deshmukh's signature and stamp on it.
"As soon as I received the letter, I checked the certificate and found that somebody had forged my signature, Deshmukh said. Investigations revealed that Thombare had forged Deshmukh's signature and had also used his stamp on the certificate. Though Tapadia has been remanded to police custody till June 28, constable Thombare has gone missing, Deshmukh said. Tapadia, owner of Mangalmurti Properties, had assured Kazi Sayyad Azizuddin -- trustee of Shaikh Salla dargah -- of giving Rs 1.5 crore and TDR against 79 acres and 30 gunthas of the 107 acre dargah land in Erandwane. He had prepared a fake power of attorney in his name to develop the land. Source:The Times Of India 27thJune2008.
