Elections to the vacant seats of four civic committees of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will be held on May 20. There are five civic committees in the PCMC, namely, the standing committee, sports committee, law committee, women and child welfare committee and slum improvement, housing and social welfare committee.
The standing committee is the most sought after by corporators as it is considered to be a lucrative post. The elections to the standing committee and of the chairperson were held as per schedule. But due to the unwillingness of corporators, elections to the other four committees have been held up by almost two months.
Speaking to TOI on Monday, town secretary Subhash Kale said elections would be held for nine seats in each of the four committees. Seven seats in the women and child welfare committee are reserved for women.
The NCP and its allies are entitled to nominate candidates for six seats in each of the four committees. The Congress is entitled to nominate candidates for two seats in each committee, whereas the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is entitled to nominate candidates to one seat in each in the four committees.
