Kathewadi village in Baramati taluka, hometown of Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar in Pune district, will soon become the only village in Pune to switch over to compact flourescent lamps (CFL).
In two months time, the entire village will do away with the sodium vapour lamps and tubelights and switch over to the energy conserving CFL.
In an effort to address global warming, this village is among the 12 selected by the Relief and Rehabilitation (R & R) Department of the State Government to initiate the pilot project -- of the entire village switching over to energy conserving CFLs. With 35 lakh being allocated for the project, a senior official said this will be a joint venture with the corporates. "Talks were on with the likes of Bajaj Electricals, Crompton Greaves and Philips," he said.
The first step was to zero in on the village and this task was given to the collector for selecting the ideal village in their respective district. "We had sent a note to collectors of Pune, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Satara, Kolhapur, Dhule, Ahmednagar, Osmanabad, Latur, Nashik and Thane. Once the entries of the ideal village are sent in, the R & R department will implement the scheme in these villages," he said.
