The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned funds of Rs 166.13 crore to the Maharashtra government under the rural infrastructure development fund (RIDF) XIV series for various development projects. The funds will be used to develop six irrigation projects and construct and strengthen roads and bridges by 2010.
According to an official release from Nabard, the decision was taken at a meeting of its project sanctioning committee on April 25. The irrigation projects will be developed in Satara district at a cost of Rs 87.86 crore. The projects will bring around 5,319 hectare of land under irrigation in the next two years.
The remaining Rs 78.27 crore will be used to construct and strengthen 85 roads and 85 bridges in the Vidarbha region to improve connectivity between villages and urban areas. As part of the project, around 246.28 km of roads will be built and strengthened, which would improve connectivity with 263 villages.
