While information technology (IT) buildings were earlier included in the general category of `offices', they have now been considered as a separate category called `IT buildings' with a different set of norms. The new policy proposes that buildings which house IT offices will have to provide parking space for five cars, 12 two-wheelers and five cycles per 200 square metre of carpet area.
Malls will have to double the parking space in future. In case of multiplexes, cinema houses and concert halls, the parking space has to be doubled to accommodate six cars and 20 two-wheelers per 40 seats instead of three cars and 10 two-wheelers earlier. Marriage and community halls will have to provide parking space for five cars, 20 scooters and 8 cycles per 100 sq.m. instead of three cars, 12 scooters and four cycles earlier While the policy suggests 50 per cent increase in parking space for colleges, for government offices the norm has doubled. Coaching classes, tuition and hobby classes too have been included in the new parking policy and they will have to arrange parking space for five twowheelers and 10 cycles per 20 students. In case of four- and five-star hotels, the existing norm of parking for three cars for every five rooms will be increased to space for five cars for as many rooms. For residential complexes, where each tenement has a carpet area of 150 sq.m. and above will have to provide space for three cars and four two-wheelers per tenement. Complexes with tenements having 80 to 150 sq.m area will have to increase the parking capacity from one car to two cars and two scooters to three scooters per unit.
