How to determine your auspicious areas in your home or your office

In Feng Shui every person has 4 auspicious directions, called Success-, Health-, Romance- and Personal Development Direction. There are also 4 which are inauspicious and should be avoided. To find out about your best areas in your home or office you have to calculate your KUA number which is based on your date of birth. According to your personal KUA number, you can determine your 4 positive directions and 4 negative directions. We will refer to the KUA number many times in the following Feng Shui Tips of the week. It is always good to know your number and your favourable directions, because sleeping, sitting or working in any of these specific locations will generally bring you luck and protect you from bad luck.

The Chinese lunar calendar differs from ours and starts with the Chinese New Year, which falls every year on a different date between 1st of Jan and the 20th of Feb. So if you born before Chinese New Year you have to calculate the KUA number from the year before.

You can find the start of the lunar year in the chart below:

If you know now, which year you have to use (your actual one or the one before), then you can calculate your KUA number with the following formula:

For Women: Add the last two digits of your year of birth
Add 5 to that number → your KUA Number
1931 → 3 + 1 = 4 ; 4 + 5 =  KUA 9

For Men: Add the last two digits of your year of birth
Deduct from 10 → your KUA Number
1974 → 7 + 4 = 11 ; 1+1 = 2 ; 10 - 2 = KUA 8

According to your KUA number you can find out now your auspicious directions:

They are all mentioned in the following sequence: Success, Health, Romance and   Personal Development

KUA 1               SE, E, S, N
KUA 2               NE, W, NW, SW
KUA 3               S, N, SE, E
KUA 4               N, S, E, SE
KUA 5 m           NE, W, NW, SW
KUA 5  f           SW, NW, W, NE
KUA 6               W, NE, SW, NW
KUA 7               NW, SW, NE, W
KUA 8               SW, NW, W, NE
KUA 9               E, SE, N, S

Note: number 5 is divided in m = male and f = female

Try as far as it is possible to sit facing your most auspicious direction, if it is not possible, then at least try to apply one of the other three good directions.

In the next Feng Shui Tips of the week we will give more advices how to apply these auspicious directions into your daily (home and office) life to set up your environment for good luck, health and success.
Lot’s of good luck wishes you Karina S.V.
