The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to introduce e-tendering scheme despite a section of contractors raising objections about accepting tenders through the internet.

The PCMC organised a training programme on the etendering scheme for the suppliers, contractors, civic employees and officials in Pimpri on Friday. During the programme a section of contractors said that it would be difficult for them to fill up the application forms on the internet in English.

Some contractors pointed out that in the new scheme the earnest money deposit for submitting tender forms was higher and demanded that it should be reduced.

Some others also demanded a user manual to learn how to fill and submit the tenders online.

Acting commissioner and additional commissioner Subhash Dumbre said, "The "PCMC has to start e-tendering process as per its commitment to the Union government to conduct reforms to get funds under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. We will go ahead with the plan to implement the e-tendering scheme."

"We would provide user manuals to contractors," Dumbre added. "Decision on demands of the contractors will be taken after discussion with civic officials at the administrative level."

The e-tendering scheme has been prepared with the help of the Science and Technology Park, which has developed the software.

The PCMC authorities have said that the e-tendering process will bring in transparency and speed up administrative work.
