In A Bid To Streamline Traffic Flow, PCMC Panel Approves Pay-And-Park Resolution
By ugesh sarkar, Section Local Transportation
In a bid to streamline traffic flow, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) may soon introduce pay-and-park schemes in the township and also fine vehicles entering the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) lanes. The proposals were passed at a standing committee meeting on Tuesday and will be sent to the general body for final approval.
The locations where the pay-and-park scheme will be implemented are yet to be finalised. It was decided that the fines collected for unauthorised parking will be shared by the municipal corporation and the traffic police. The traffic police will use their share to purchase equipment needed for regulating traffic. They will have to seek the PCMC's permission to use this money for other purposes. Giving details of the standing committee meeting, member Sulabha Ubale said the members raised concern about the growing number of dog bite cases in the township. They also referred to the recent Mumbai high court judgement permitting the killing of rabid and trouble-making stray dogs. Ubale said that the PCMC should take advantage of this judgement and eliminate rabid and nuisance-causing stray dogs. Click On "Full Story" For More...
The members also pointed out the lack of cleanliness in various parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad. Ubale said the tenders received for various conservancy contracts are yet to be opened. There are some contracts for which only one bid has been received. The members directed the health department to open the bids for contracts where the lone bid has been made by self-help groups.
The committee passed a resolution approving the revised budget for 2008-09. Further, the draft budget for 2009-10 with an outlay of Rs 6.06 crore was also given the go-ahead. The committee also approved a resolution to improve the water supply to Ajmera complex in Amruteshwar colony and to Kharalwadi at a cost of Rs 50 lakh.
