Passports can now be applied for onlineBy rajesh, Section Computer Gupshup
Pune: The much-anticipated facility for on-line acceptance of passport application will commence from December 12, the Pune regional passport office (RPO) announced on Monday.
The e-application facility would go a long way in ensuring smaller queue of passport seekers at passport office, besides enabling correct spelling and updated information. All an applicant is expected to do is to visit the website, https://passport.gov.in, select the on-line registration option, read instructions and select `passport office Pune' option for filling up the form. Columns marked with red star are for mandatory information. Post-registration, the applicant has to secure a print out of the application form for obtaining the application number and date of appointment. After filling up certain columns by hand, the applicant has to get two photocopies of the application form. In case of more than one address, an additional photo copy of the form for each address should be taken. Later, the applicant is required to visit the passport office in person for submitting the form with fee and originals of supporting documents.
The Pune RPO, which covers Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Pune, Ahmednagar and Solapur districts, has been witnessing a steady increase in volume of fresh passport pleas as well as issuance.
On an average, nearly 8,000 applications are being processed every month by the Pune RPO, which is third only to Mumbai and Thane in the state. Between January 1 and September 30, the Pune RPO received 72,516 applications and issued 71,274 passports. According to officiating passport officer A.A. Tejwani, the on-line application facility would be applicable to fresh passport seekers, cases of re-issue of passport where the 10-year validity has expired, passport for minors and duplicate passport in case of loss or damage to existing one. Tejwani has appealed to passport seekers availing of the facility to go through the information on the website http://indianpassport.nic.in regarding the fee structure, instructions and required documents. "People should apply online only if they are sure that they will produce all the necessary documents on the date of appointment." Source: Times Of India
