PUNE: After evading the city for the whole of November and the first week of December, winter finally made its presence felt on Sunday, with the mercury dipping to 10.7 degrees Celsius -- the lowest recorded so far and a shade below the normal 11 degrees for the month.
After hovering four-plus degrees above normal in the first six days of this month, the minimum temperature maintained a downward trend since December 7, when the temperature was recorded at 13.7 degrees. On December 8 and 9, the minimum temperature was down to 12.1 and 11.9 degrees respectively. Sunday's 10.7-mark is seen by officials at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here as a 'normal' occurrence.
According to Rohini Lele, director for weather forecasting at IMD, the city is yet to receive the northerly winds, which normally bring more cold and dryness.
