Electric bills being dropped in letter boxes every two months will soon be a thing of the past. Thanks to the Maharashtra State Distribution Company, a new ?spot billing? system will take effect from August 1, by which workers of the company will visit the consumers, check their meter readings and submit a bill on the spot.
Confirming the new system, Rameshsingh Gautam, chief engineer of MSDC, Pune zone said that the task has been outsourced to a Hyderabad-based company. He added that the process will eliminate chances of error in meter readings and improve the efficiency of the billing system.
Subscribers will be given a bill slip with details of the meter readings, which will eliminate delays, sources in MSDC said. Problems like bill arrears and other complaints will also reduce due to the new system, which will be implemented only in the Pune zone.
This system will be started at Rasta Peth, Nagar Road, Bund Garden, Padmavati and Parvati divisions, MSDC sources said. In the second phase, the facility will be extended to Kothrud, Pimpri, Bhosari and Shivajinagar divisions. Though a private company will be involved in running the system initially, MSDC staff will take over the operations later.
