Puneites - How about taking some initiative

Hi all,

I am a Puneite, living in Singapore for the last 6 yrs. Singapore is a small city country but its ability to put things in order, plan and constantly upgrade puts the lil red dot on the world map today. I still am and will always be a Pune lover and do plan to return soon.

In a recent survey of India, Puneites have been rated the happiest people acorss the country and sure we all know the reasons thereof. I sure am proud!!!

Having travelled many countries and made observations on what makes a city 'tick', I wish to share some of my dreams that we must turn into reality-

Let 'us' embark on a stage which the rest of India will watch...let us be the example

As responsible citizens, can we create Awareness Programmes on

1)Hygiene - Plastic gloves which cost pittance must be made complusory for all those working in eating joints, restaurants to avoid ailments like dengue...

2)Recycling Bins - We'd rather conserve than create environmental waste. Create separate bins for metals, plastic and paper. Make these available at convenient locations.

3)Waste Bins - 'Out of sight is out of Mind'-if you do not see bins-you are bound to trash things by the roadside-Can someone do something about providing litter bins.?

4)Charity-We are fortunate to be writing online today. But there are those whose voices are lost among the honking cars and speeding bikes. May I suggest creating Charity Booths, wherein any re-useable items maybe placed for collection by authorities and distribution amongst needy. Let us stop 'hoarding' what we do not need.

5)Uplift your Service Standards-With tourism figures going up,we need to deliver high service standards, the basic rule being-service with a "SMILE"..(my compliments to those who have been practicing ..for yrs now)

How about some suggestions on lifestyle-
"Can we run programmes on health and fitness"?

Let us take pride in taking the lead rather than waiting for th miracle to happen...Let us make the difference...(and I promise I'll be back there to join you soon)

Pune-ly yours,
