Govt considering a new Pune airport

Here is some concrete evidence that a plan is afoot to secure Rs. 5000 crore for a few new aiports in India.  If Navi Mumbai can get an airport, why can't Pune?

Could this be the Chakan airport?

According to the latest estimates, the first phase of Hyderabad airport will cost Rs. 1400 crore.  So if we divide the 6000 crore equally amongst Goa, Navi Mumbai, Kanpur, Nagpur and Pune, that gives Rs. 1200 crore for Pune. Not bad!

Considering the fact that Hyderabad airport work will start in 2007, who knows when the bhoomi pujan will be done for Pune.

The government is considering a proposal to build five greenfield airports in the country. The airports, which will require an investment of over Rs 6,000 crore (Rs 60 billion), are expected to come up in Goa, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Kanpur and Nagpur. The proposed airport in Nagpur is expected to be developed as an international aviation hub.
